A group performance remixing soundscape with mobile devices in urban space
SoundWalking is a series of group interventions in Aix-en-Provence and Marseilles, where the city becomes the basis of a real-time musical piece, transforming the immediate environment into new sonic material, and encouraging participants to listen, contribute and exchange. Involving a group of students in a workshop, Steve Jones forms an itinerant fanfare that remixes the urban soundscape by using smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.
SoundWalking investigates strategies for processing sound while moving through a space, exploring the intimate relationship between people and their surroundings, between play and sound.

Steve Jones benefitted from a research residency at Locus Sonus at the École d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence in 2015.
